Deep chemical peel
What is a deep chemical peel?
A deep chemical peel is used to improve the texture and appearance of the skin. It is effective for deep wrinkles, sun damage, age spots, acne scarring and is often used on the face to create a smoother skin appearance.
A deep chemical peel penetrates deeply into the skin to stimulate new collagen production and remove damaged outer skin layers. This accelerates skin regeneration.
Who might benefit from a deep chemical peel?
You may be a suitable candidate for a deep chemical peel if you have:
Deep facial wrinkles, especially around the mouth and eyes.
Extensive sun damage or leathery skin texture.
Uneven skin tone or pigmentation.
Skin that has not responded well to lighter peels or laser treatments.
Procedure Information
-
A deep chemical peel is done in the operating theatre under sedation or general anaesthesia, often with other facial surgery. Your skin is prepared for 4–6 weeks beforehand, and you’ll get medication to prevent infection. The peel is tailored to your skin type and needs, and usually takes 30–60 minutes depending on the areas treated.
-
Recovery can vary between individuals. In general:
·Your face will appear red after the procedure.
You will apply a cream to your face for a week after surgery.
The peeling process takes approximately two weeks to complete.
Once the skin has healed, you can apply make-up.
-
The results of a deep chemical peel can last for many years, offering long-lasting improvement in skin texture, tone, and a reduction in deep wrinkles. However, it’s important to remember that this treatment does not stop the natural ageing process.
To help maintain and extend your results, good skincare and regular sun protection are strongly recommended.
