Nanofat & Microneedling
What is microneedling?
Microneedling uses a medical device to creates thousands of micro punctures in the skin to stimulate the skin’s healing process which in turn boosts collagen and elastin production.
Because the wounds created by the device are microscopic, scarring is unlikely as the skin is able to heal these tiny punctures well.
Microneedling can improve the appearance of scars, melasma, dull skin, and skin texture.
While microneedling can be a standalone treatment, results may be better when combined with nanofat treatment.
Microneedling can be performed at the same time as other facial procedures such as facelifting.
Where is microneedling performed?
Microneedling is performed in the operating theatre when combined with other facial treatments.
In the office: It can be performed as a standalone treatment with you awake, after applying some numbing cream to your face.
What is nanofat needling?
Nanofat needling is a relatively new treatment that combines microneedling with stem cells from your own fat, which improves your skin quality and reduces signs of ageing.
Microneedling uses very fine needles to create tiny channels in the skin. These are invisible to the eye but trigger your body’s natural healing process to produce collagen and elastin - the proteins that keep skin firm and smooth. When we add nanofat (a special form of purified fat rich in stem cells), these cells are gently delivered into the deeper layers of your skin during the needling. This increases skin repair and renewal from the deeper layers out.
What are the benefits of nanofat needling?
Individual responses vary, but treatment can lead to:
Improved skin texture (smoother).
Improved skin tone (firmer).
Reduced fine lines, wrinkles and large pores.
Improved appearance of scars.
The procedure can be done under local anaesthetic. Results begin to show within a few weeks, but the effects of the stem cells can continue to work for up to a year after the treatment.
Risks & complications
-
Any procedure that penetrates the skin surface carries a risk of infection, although this is rare with office-based microneedling.
-
Risks specific to microneedling will be discussed with you during your consultation and will also be provided in your consent paperwork. These include:
Skin irritation and sensitivity.
Bruising.
Acne flares and cold sores, especially if you have a history of these conditions.
Scarring: This is very rare with office-based microneedling.
For the addition of nanofat, please refer to the specific risks of Liposuction.
