Face lifts - How to Get Better Results
I recently co-authored an article with internationally recognised plastic surgeons, Dr. Tonnard and Dr. Verpaele, on complementary procedures that can be performed in conjunction with facelifts to optimise facial rejuvenation outcomes.
Here is a summary of our work.
What is a MACS facelift?
The MACS facelift is a minimally invasive facelift technique designed to lift and tighten sagging skin, particularly around the mid-face and jawline. Compared to traditional facelifts, it often uses shorter incisions and offers a faster recovery.
Combining MACS facelift with other procedures
In our study, we looked at 380 patients who had a MACS facelift performed by the senior authors and examined which other cosmetic procedures they chose to have at the same time, including:
Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) to address droopy eyelids or under-eye bags.
Brow lift to reduce forehead lines and elevate sagging brows.
Lip lift to address age-related thinning and sagging of the upper lip.
Facial fat grafting (lipofilling) to restore facial volume and smooth wrinkles.
Skin resurfacing treatments such as microneedling.
Key Findings from the Study
Patients undergoing facelifts often chose to have additional procedures at the same time to address different signs of ageing—such as volume loss, skin quality, and sagging. The most common procedures included fat grafting, brow lift, neck lift, microneedling, eyelid surgery, and lip lift.
Safe and Effective: Combining a facelift with these additional procedures did not increase the risk of complications when performed by an experienced plastic surgeon.
Customised Treatment: Tailoring procedures to each patient’s facial anatomy can lead to greater satisfaction with overall facial rejuvenation outcomes.
Take Home Messages
For those exploring facial rejuvenation surgery, our research suggests that a MACS facelift combined with complementary procedures may provide:
Better correction of age-related changes across the face.
Safe and predictable outcomes.
It’s important to consult a fully qualified plastic surgeon to discuss which combination of procedures is best suited for your face, goals, and recovery expectations.
